MISSING HOME
Hailey Sadler
The project “Missing Home” aimed to raise awareness about the plight of Ukrainian refugees who have been forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The project was presented through a photographic exhibition of Hailey Sadler in the framework of Kolga Tbilisi Photo 2023 in May 2023 and later in September at Art House Gori.
The exhibition showcased an award-winning collection of photographs created by US photographer and National Geographic Explorer Hailey Sadler, who spent August 2022 in Tbilisi, documenting the daily life of Ukrainian refugees across the city. Already almost two years into Russia's full-scale invasion, these photographs provide a tender and timely look at what life is like for many Ukrainian families right now as they navigate the tension of remaking home in a new place even while aching from the absence of home left behind.
Photographer and Conflict & Migration specialist Hailey Sadler hosted Artist Takl for participants interested in the intersections of visual storytelling and social issues, particularly conflict and forced displacement, and hosted a Public Meeting in collaboration with National Geographic Magazine Georgia.
This project is a cross-cultural collaboration between Museograph and the Home Collective, a U.S.-based platform
co-founded by Hailey Sadler. The project is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi.
